Iowa: Man Sentenced 15 Months In Prison & Fined $56,000 For Cutting Down More Than 24 Black Walnut Trees.

desmoinesregister.com (25, May 2013) - A central Iowa man has been given prison time for cutting down more than two dozen black walnut trees.

U.S. Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt said Randall Todd Walker, 50, of Des Moines was sentenced this month to 15 months in prison. He also has been ordered to pay more than $56,000 in restitution.

Walker pleaded guilty of removing a total of 32 trees from property belonging to the Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The trees had been located in the Neal Smith National Wildlife Reserve in Prairie City, the downtown Riverside area in Des Moines, the Sycamore area in Polk County and the Lake Red Rock area in Marion County.
