Wife of imprisoned Saudi blogger asks Canada PM to intervene

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) — The wife of an imprisoned Saudi blogger, sentenced to 10 years in prison and 1,000 lashes on charges that he insulted Islam, said Thursday that her husband can't endure another flogging.

Raif Badawi's wife Ensaf Haidar, now a refugee living in Quebec, went to Parliament Hill on Thursday to join lawmakers in urging Prime Minister Stephen Harper to intervene personally with the Saudis.

They want the prime minister to push for the release of Badawi who is set to receive 50 more lashes on Friday. The 32-year-old father of three was lashed 50 times on Jan. 9, but his second scheduled beating was postponed last week for medical reasons.

"Raif's health condition is getting worse and worse," Haidar said through a translator. "I am very concerned about him. It is impossible for a human being to be able to withstand 50 lashes weekly."

Badawi was charged with insulting Islam after he urged Saudis to share opinions about the role of religion in the country on his Free Saudi Liberals website. Saudi Arabia follows a strict form of Islam that includes harsh punishments for challenging customs.

The Jiddah Criminal Court also ordered Raif Badawi to pay a fine of 1 million Saudi riyals, or about $266,000.

Malaysian king backs court ban on non-Muslims using ‘Allah’

- Malaysia's king gave his backing on Sunday to a court ruling barring non-Muslims from using the word “Allah” to refer to G-d, weighing in for the first time on an issue that has fanned religious tensions in the multi-cultural country.

Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam, whose role as head of state is largely ceremonial, alluded to the issue which has raised questions over miniority rights during his birthday speech to the Southeast Asian nation.

A court in October ruled that the word was exclusive to majority Malay Muslims, overturning an earlier decision allowing a Catholic newspaper to use Allah in its Malay-language edition.

The court ruling has since prompted Muslim leaders to call for demonstrations against Christians who do not comply. Christians make up about 9% of Malaysia's 29 million people.

“In the context of a pluralistic society, religious sensitivities especially related to Islam as the religion of the federation should be respected,” Sultan Abdul Halim said in the speech released by state news agency Bernama.

“Confusion and controversy can be averted if there is adherence to the provisions of the law and judicial decisions.”

Police are currently investigating a Catholic priest under sedition laws for insisting the word can be used by non-Muslims in Malay, the country's national language.

As a result, one can infer that the actual number of taxi rapes across Britain as a whole is far greater than many are willing to admit.

Apart from a few high-profile cases, taxi rapes are rarely reported by national newspapers in Britain, apparently because the politically incorrect crimes are not deemed to be newsworthy. But a survey of stories buried deep inside local newspapers shows that taxi rapes are occurring in all parts of England, Wales and Scotland on an almost daily basis.

Transparency: Rand Paul: Your Taxes Fund Regimes That Kill Christians 'For Blasphemy Against Islam'

(CNSNews.com) – In a speech at the Faith and Freedom Coalition conference on Thursday, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said he was angry over the fact that U.S. tax money is used to support foreign regimes where Christians are killed “for blasphemy against Islam,” and where “Muslims who convert to Christianity” are also put to death.

“It angers me to see my tax dollars supporting regimes that put Christians to death for blasphemy against Islam, countries that put to death Muslims who convert to Christianity, and countries who imprison anyone who marries outside their religion,” said Paul at the conference, held at the JW Marriott hotel in Washington, D.C.

“There is a war on Christianity, not just from liberal elites here at home, but worldwide,” said Paul. “And your government, or more correctly, you, the taxpayer, are funding it. You are being taxed to send money to countries that are not only intolerant of Christians but openly hostile. Christians are imprisoned and threatened with death for their beliefs.”

Paul spent most of his speech talking about the persecution of Christians abroad and cited cases of gross injustice in Pakistan, Iraq, Egypt and Syria.

“It is clear that American taxpayer dollars are being used to enable a war on Christianity in the Middle East and I believe that must end,” said Paul.

In concluding his speech, the senator said, “G-d, help us in these troubling times to make wise decisions, to make moral decisions, and to listen to the voice of God that lives and breathes and resides in us all. Amen.”

'Multiculturalism' Blamed For Violent Youth Riots In Sweden.

(WND) STOCKHOLM, Sweden – Three nights of violent rioting by immigrant youth in the suburbs here have seen dozens of cars burned, multiple police officers injured, numerous windows shattered, schools set ablaze and more.

The riots began on Sunday in Husby, just outside of the capital, where about 80 percent of the population is either first or second generation immigrants. Most of them come from largely Muslim countries like Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Somalia.

Chaos quickly spread on Monday and Tuesday, with authorities reporting that at least six areas of Stockholm were affected by rioting and violence. A police station was also attacked.

Roving youth gangs threw Molotov cocktails and rocks at first responders trying to rein in the disorder and clean up the mess.

By early Wednesday, even more vehicles and buildings were burned out as first responders worked to put out the flames.

It was the worst turmoil experienced by Sweden in years, with hundreds of youth participating in the riots. Police say at least 15 have been arrested so far.

Britain: 'Whites' Are Now Minority In London.

- White British people are now in a minority in London for the first time, it emerged today as census data revealed that the immigrant population of England and Wales went up by 3 million over the past decade.

Just 3.7 million Londoners described their ethnicity as ‘White British’ in 2011 – down from 4.3 million in 2001, and making up 44.9 per cent of the city’s population.

It is believed to be the first time that British whites have become a minority in any region of the UK.
Another major change to the nation came in the decreasing number of Christians – 4 million fewer people claimed to belong to the faith as a quarter of Britons said they had no religion.

In 2011, 7.5 million residents were foreign-born, making up 13 per cent, or one in eight of the population – up from 4.6 million people in 2001.

The total population of England and Wales was 56.1 million, a seven per cent increase on 2001 – and 55 per cent of the increase is due to migration.

There were 33.2million people claiming to be Christian, down from 37.3million in 2001 and making up just 59 per cent of the population.

25.1 per cent of people said they had no faith, up from 14.8 per cent a decade earlier, while the proportion of Muslims rose from 3.0 per cent to 4.8 per cent.

Egypt Sentences 8 To Death Over Islam Film.

- An Egyptian court convicted in absentia Wednesday(11/28) seven Egyptian Coptic Christians and a Florida-based American pastor, sentencing them to death on charges linked to an anti-Islam film that had sparked riots in parts of the Muslim world.

The case was seen as largely symbolic because the defendants, most of whom live in the United States, are all outside Egypt and are thus unlikely to ever face the verdict. The charges were issued in September amid a wave of public outrage in Egypt over the amateur film, which was produced by an Egyptian-American Copt.

The low-budget “Innocence of Muslims,” parts of which were made available online, portrays the Prophet Muhammad as a fraud, womanizer and buffoon.

France Sees 'Alarming' Rise In 'Islamophobia.'

-French Muslims have become the target of a marked increase in Islamophobic violence and actions, as well as incendiary statements by politicians, over the last two years, according to a report by a leading anti-racism observatory.

The number of racist acts against Muslims in France is increasing “alarmingly”, according to the country’s National Observatory of Islamophobia, whose president has called for overt Islamophobia to be taken as seriously as anti-Semitism, which is a criminal offence in France.

According to a report by the Observatory, which claims to fight “all forms of racism and xenophobia”, “in 2011 the number [of anti-Muslim attacks] was up 34% on the previous year . . . but what is happening in 2012 is alarming. Between January and the end of October there were 175 reported Islamophobic acts, a 42% increase compared with the same period in 2011.”

Nigeria Is Literally On The Verge Of Civil War (& Collapse) As Boko Haram Increases Attacks On Christians In Nigeria. Multiculturalism Really Doesn't Work.

- Militant Islamist group Boko Haram has declared “war” on Christians in Nigeria, saying that they are planning coordinated attacks to “eradicate Christians from certain parts of the country”.

A spokesman for the group, which has stepped up its violent campaign against Christians in the North since Christmas, said on Sunday (4 March): We will create so much effort to end the Christian presence in our push to have a proper Islamic state that the Christians won’t be able to stay
Boko Haram’s actions over recent months indicate that this is no idle threat.

Following a series of attacks on churches and other targets in five states over Christmas that left more than 40 people dead, the group on New Year’s Day issued a three-day deadline for Christians to leave the North. Unrelenting attacks have ensued, including the bombing of a number of churches as well as attacks on individual Christians.

Most recently, on 26 February, a suicide bomber drove a car into the grounds of the Church of Christ headquarters in Jos. The vehicle exploded three metres from the church building; two women and an 18-month-old child were killed, and around 50 people were injured.

The violence is having the intended effect of driving Christians from the North. Nearly 95 per cent of the Christians have left Yobe State, where 20 churches have been torched and many lives have been lost.
Some are heading to the mainly Christian South, while others are crossing the border into Cameroon. The mass migration is precipitating a major humanitarian and spiritual crisis in Nigeria; Northern Christians who have been forced to leave behind their homes and jobs are in great need, while, as the Christian presence diminishes, the Church is being wiped off the map in the North.

Boko Haram has killed around 1,000 people since 2009 in its bloody campaign to establish an Islamic state in Northern Nigeria. As well as attacking Christians, the group targets police, security forces and politicians, and also Muslim leaders who oppose its agenda. Over 300 people have been killed so far this year.
The government has been trying to curtail Boko Haram’s activities, deploying military units across the country, and arresting and killing a number of members in recent weeks. But, issuing the latest threat, the group’s spokesman said that the government “cannot be prepared for what is to come”.

Apologizing For The Crusades.

Most of you have probably heard the media, at one time or another, make the claim that it was during the Crusades that Christians and Muslims met for the first time on the battlefield. You’ve heard it explained that the tragedy of the Crusades waged by Christians on innocent Muslims has resulted in the hatred and wars we see today between Islam and the West. But, did you know that Islam was the victor in those wars? Did you know that the Crusades were a delayed response to Islam’s conquest of nearly two-thirds of the Christian world? Did you know that Islam was waging Jihad on Christians for 4 centuries before Christians finally fought back in the 11th century? If the media is so eager to point out the admittedly violent acts of the Crusaders, shouldn’t they also be willing to point out the jihad waged by Muslims that led to those wars?

From the time of Muhammad, the means of Muslim expansion was always the sword, and their declared goal was always the complete conquest of Europe for Islam. When Muhammad began his fight against the non-believer in the 7th century, Christianity was the dominant religion of power and wealth. It spanned the entire Mediterranean and Middle East. After Muhammad’s death, Muslims continued their Jihad against Christianity with fierce determination, and their mission was largely successful. By the 8th Century, the Muslims had conquered Palestine, Syria, Egypt, all of North Africa, and Spain. By the 11th Century they had conquered Asia Minor and almost all of the old Roman Empire. Christianity was headed for extinction. It wasn’t until this point in history that the emperor in Constantinople sent word to Europe asking for help from fellow Christians. The crusades began as a desperate attempt to save Christianity from total annihilation by Islam. The aggressor of the medieval world was Islam, not Christianity as our anti-Christian, liberal friends would have us believe.

The Crusades are often portrayed by the uninformed or politically motivated as a mission by the Christians to loot, plunder and convert Muslims to Christianity. Nothing could be further from the truth. Scholars have discovered through historical records and the charters of the Crusaders that the majority of Crusaders were wealthy men with their own land in Europe. They gave up everything they had to go on what they considered a holy mission and, more often than not, came back with nothing. Nor was their mission one of colonialism. They fought to restore Jerusalem and Christian lands from the hands of Muslim Jihadists who had themselves pillaged, plundered, and conquered.

The Crusaders mission was never to convert Muslims. It was to defeat and defend against them. When the crusaders did win a territory, Muslims were always allowed to keep their religion and usually their land and property. The Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem always had a larger Muslim population than it did Catholic. Any later attempts to convert Muslims were by peaceful means, not by force. This cannot be said of the Muslim invaders. Conversion to Islam was forced by penalty of death in many cases, and when it wasn’t, Christians were forced to live as second-class citizens and pay the Jizya, a tax required of non-believers.

It’s interesting that the Islamic terrorists we are fighting today would use the crusades as a propaganda tool. After all, they won those wars. The crusades of the 12th and 13th centuries were largely unsuccessful. By 1291, the Muslim forces had succeeded in killing or ejecting the last of the Crusaders, thus erasing the Crusader kingdom from the map. Christians were never again able to gain back their land in the region until the 19th century. If the memory of the Crusades causes such anguish and anger for Muslims today, why is it that it doesn’t cause the same kind of anger for Christians? Why is the Christian response to invasion and conquest demonized, while Islam’s jihad against Christianity is often glorified? Going by this logic, when the World Trade Center towers fell, we should have apologized for the anger the crusades caused and promised to let them have New York should they invade.

The media would lead you to believe that the Crusaders crushed the Islamic world and left them in the dust. In fact the crusades failed. It was capitalism, the enlightenment, and the financial successes of the west that left the Islamic world behind. The Muslim threat was neutralized economically. The Muslim world was not oppressed, humiliated, defeated, or permanently offended by Christian Crusaders. We all need to realize that, had the Crusaders not finally attempted a defense, the world we know today would not exist. Christianity as we know it would not exist. Respect for women, democracy, freedom of religion would not exist. Those who are demanding that we now apologize to the Islamic world for the crusades, are either woefully uninformed, or are so anti-American they must resort to revisionist history to support their position. Either way, they don’t recognize that the ground they now stand on in the war on terror is not that dissimilar to that of the Crusaders who fought for their right to exist in a world where Islamic terrorism ran rampant.

            Nigeria’s 160 million population is roughly divided between a mainly Muslim north and predominantly Christian south.

Muslims have been victims of Boko Haram attacks, but a wave of Christmas day bombings particularly targeting churches set off fears of retaliation from Christians.

President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency on Saturday in parts of four states hard hit by violence blamed on Boko Haram.

The declaration came in response to scores of attacks attributed to Boko Haram, particularly the bombings on Christmas that killed 49 people, most of them in a gruesome blast at a Catholic church as services were ending.

While Boko Haram has been carrying out increasingly deadly attacks for months, including an August suicide bombing of UN headquarters in Abuja that left 25 dead, the Christmas violence sparked intense fear and outrage.

It also led to warnings from Christian leaders that they would defend themselves if such attacks continued, raising deep concern.

While declaring the state of emergency in Africa’s largest oil producer, Jonathan acknowledged that the attacks “have threatened our collective security and shaken the foundations of our corporate existence as a nation.”
