‘Blaxit’: African Americans Moving To Africa To Escape Racism

- Digital marketer Muhammida el-Muhajir moved from New York City to Ghana to escape America's "incessant racism and prejudice" and thousands of others are doing the same, Al Jazeera reports.

From Al Jazeera:

Accra, Ghana - They have come from the big cities of San Francisco, Chicago, and New York. Thousands of them. And many refuse to return.

A new wave of African Americans is escaping the incessant racism and prejudice in the United States. From Senegal and Ghana to The Gambia, communities are emerging in defiance of conventional wisdom that Africa is a continent everyone is trying to leave.

It is estimated that between 3,000 and 5,000 African Americans live in Accra, the Ghanaian capital. They are teachers in small towns in the west or entrepreneurs in the capital and say they that even though living in Ghana is not always easy, they feel free and safe.

el-Muhajir told Al Jazeera why she decided to make the move:

"I grew up in Philadelphia and then New York. I went to Howard, which is a historically black university. I tell people that Ghana is like Howard in real life. It felt like a microcosm of the world. At university, they tell us the world isn't black, but there are places where this is the real world. Howard prepares you for a world where black people are in charge, which is a completely different experience compared to people who have gone to predominantly white universities."

US: Judge bans Arizona from enforcing "racist" education law

CNN - An Arizona law banning Mexican-American studies from schools has been quashed.

A federal court says the measure, which took aim at programmes such as Tucson Unified School District's Mexican-American Studies (MAS) program Arizona that state lawmakers said were "designed primarily for pupils of a particular ethnic group," violates students' constitutional rights.

Richard Martinez, the attorney who represents a group of Mexican-American students who attended the Tucson Unified School District, said the students sued shortly after the law was passed by Arizona Governor Jan Brewer.

"This was their curriculum that was intended to be responsive to them...culturally, linguistically, educationally," Martinez said. "The program had a very strong effect on students' achievement... in fact, most of the students finished high school and matriculated to college, which was unprecedented at Tucson Unified School District."

Most of the students are now in college, with two students currently enrolled in high school in the Tucson Unified School District.

According to court documents, the programme was established in 1998 and included courses like art, government, literature, and history focusing on "historic and contemporary Mexican-American contributions." It was meant to help Mexican-American students engage and relate to their studies and to "close the historic gap in academic achievement between Mexican-American & white students in Tucson."

The MAS programme was a success, U.S. District Court Judge Wallace Tashima noted, writing that "one would expect that officials responsible for public education in Arizona would continue, not terminate, an academically successful program."

However, the programme drew negative attention from Arizona Department of Education officials. Tom Horne, the former superintendent of public instruction, said the programme was "'extremely anti-American" because it promotes "essentially revolution against the American government."

According to court documents, Horne never attended a class from the programme to see what was being taught there and yet recommended the program be canceled. When the Tucson Unified School District didn't accept his recommendation, Horne "began lobbying for statewide legislation that would ban the program." His third draft of a bill prohibiting ethnic courses passed the House.

That was when John Huppenthal, a Senator who was chairman of the Senate Education Accountability and Reform Committee, became a proponent of the bill. It passed the Legislature in 2010 and both officials used the bill "to make political gains," Judge Tashima said, using the issue as "a political boon," that the men referenced in their political campaigns.

The court also found that Huppenthal posted discriminatory comments on a blog a few months after the bill passed. Huppenthal, who wrote under two pseudonyms, said things like, "I don't mind them selling Mexican food as long as the menus are mostly in English." He also wrote that embracing Mexico's values is "the rejection of success and embracement of failure," and opposed Spanish-language media saying, "This is America, speak English." He also wrote a blog comment comparing the Mexican-American Studies classes to the "KKK in a different colour," called the teachers skinheads and said they "use the exact same technique that Hitler used in his rise to power."

These blog comments, the judge said, were "the most important and direct evidence that racial animus infected the decision to enact" the bill.

Tashima ultimately concluded that the bill "was enacted and enforced with a discriminatory purpose" since "students have a First Amendment right to receive information and ideas" and said current Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas and Horne and Huppenthal "acted contrary to the First and Fourteenth Amendments," "violated students' constitutional rights," and said the bill "was not enacted in a legitimate educational purpose."

The defendants have 30 days to appeal and "the clock is ticking," said Martinez.

"Everyone is very pleased to bring this eight-year challenge to closure in such a positive way. Now public school students in Arizona will be allowed to take classes that teach their history and literature, to hear their own stories and know that they, too, are part of the rich American fabric," Martinez said.

CNN has requested comment from the Arizona Department of Education as well as the state's attorney general. Tucson Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Trujillo did not have a comment, his spokeswoman said. The District and staff are on winter break. (ontinueReading

The Netherlands Just Had Its Annual Christmas Blackface Fight Amid Controversy

VICE.com - It’s not really Christmas until people in the Netherlands start arguing about whether the racist Christmas character Zwarte Piet – Black Pete – is actually racist. The Zwarte Pieten are meant to be Santa's team of helpers, who – as their name subtly alludes to – are black. His character is celebrated on Sinterklaas (St Nicholas) day – an annual Dutch holiday on the 5th of December, which heavily features white people dressing up as Piet by splashing on blackface.

At this year's celebration, angry pro-Piet supporters set up roadblocks on the streets leading into the small northern Dutch village of Dokkum, to block anti-Piet demonstrators from protesting the area's Sinterklaas parade. The stand-off was framed as a battle between liberal elites, with their PC, no-to-blackface ways, and defenders of good, old-fashioned Dutch traditions.

A week later, there was another attempt at an anti-Piet demonstration in Dokkum to protest the group being barred from entering the town on Sinterklaas. I travelled to the event with the protesters to speak to both sides and find out why people are still wearing blackface in 2017.

TRIGGERED: Food company Kellogg to remove "racist" Corn Pops cereal packaging

*contains strong language

Newsweek - Cereal giant Kellogg's has promised to immediately remove artwork from its Corn Pops cereal boxes after receiving a complaint on Twitter about a racially insensitive game on its packaging.

Writer and graphic novelist Saladin Ahmed noticed the offending cartoon on a Corn Pops box and tweeted a complaint to Kellogg's. The cartoon game asked kids to find corn pops engaged in various activities in a crowded mall, with characters taking a selfie, jumping rope or sunbathing.

But Ahmed discovered the only brown-skinned Corn Pop in the image—and he was the mall’s janitor.

In a second tweet, the writer explained the small detail could have a large impact. “Yes it’s a tiny thing, but when you see your kid staring at this over breakfast and realize millions of kids are doing the same…,” he wrote.

Kellogg's responded quickly to Ahmed’s complaints through the company’s Twitter account. “Kellogg is committed to diversity & inclusion. We did not intend to offend—we apologize. The artwork is updated & will be in stores soon,” the response on social media read.

Ahmed then thanked Kellogg's for its swift message and action. “Genuinely appreciate the rapid response,” he tweeted and then marveled at the irony of using modern technology to address historical racial problems. “Today I used the computer in my pocket to get a cereal company to make their boxes less racist,” he wrote. “What even is the 21 century?” he added.

Unfortunately, the tale did not have an entirely happy ending, as clearly Ahmed then had to deal with some trolls on the social media site. “Avoiding my mentions which are particularly full of upset racist dipshits right now,” he wrote. “Sorry if that means I have missed your non-dipshit words.”

Kellogg's has in the past attracted controversy from the right-wing of the political spectrum. In November 2016, the U.S.-based multinational pulled its advertisements from the far-right news outlet Breitbart, saying the company was not “aligned with our values.” In response, the website declared war on the company, calling for a boycott of its products online and on social media. Barcelona: Van hits crowds in Ramblas tourist area

BBC - A van has ploughed into crowds in Barcelona's Las Ramblas tourist area.

Spanish police say several people have been injured in a "massive crash", while emergency services are urging people to stay away from the area around Plaça de Catalunya.

Reports from the scene say people are taking cover in nearby shops and cafes.

Reuters news agency reports that emergency services have requested the closure of local metro and train stations.

El Pais newspaper said the driver of the vehicle had fled on foot after mowing down dozens of people.

Steven Turner, who works in the area, told the BBC: "People in my office saw a van ramming into people on Las Ramblas.

"I saw about three or four people lying on the ground."

"There are lots of ambulances and armed police with assault rifles around now."

Details of this incident are still unclear, but vehicles have been used to ram into crowds in a series of attacks across Europe since July last year.

Aamer Anwar said he was walking down Las Ramblas, which was "jam-packed" with tourists.

"All of a sudden, I just sort of heard a crashing noise and the whole street just started to run, screaming. I saw a woman right next to me screaming for her kids," he told Sky News.

"Police were very, very quickly there, police officers with guns, batons, everywhere. Then the whole street started getting pushed back.

"Police officers who got there just started screaming at people to move back, move back." (ontinueReading

Strength!: Walmart Apologizes After a Listing on Its Site Featured a Racial Slur

fortune.com - Walmart prompted controversy on Monday July 17 after a third-party product description on its website contained a racial slur.

The mega-retail chain published a description for a wig cap that listed its color as "Nigger Brown." The post sparked a reaction on Twitter.

"Umm, @Walmart we need to have a chat," the comedian Travon Free wrote.

Walmart apologized for the use of the racial slur on Monday, calling it "appalling." The retailer did not share the name of the vendor (for obvious reasons) that was selling the wig cap.

"We are very sorry and appalled that this third party seller listed their item with this description on our online marketplace," Walmart said in a statement posted on Twitter. "It is a clear violation of our policy and has been removed, and we are investigating the seller to determine how this could have happened."

Walmart eventually took the listing for the wig down from its page. Jagazi Naturals, a United Kingdom-based company listed as the wig cap seller, said that it had nothing to do with the listing.

"The real JAGAZI is a 100% black company for black people. People have often used our brand name to try and sell their products. Please be aware. Very sorry for all the distress this has caused. We are feeling the pain here as well," Jagazi said in a statement. (ontinueReading

Illinois: 4 in custody after mentally disabled man tied up, tortured on Facebook Live

*The following contains graphic content that some might find disturbing.

FOX 32 NEWS - Chicago investigators are questioning four African-Americans after a Facebook Live video shows a group of people torturing a white mentally disabled man while someone yelled "F*** Trump!" and "F*** white people!"

Chicago police were made aware of the video Tuesday afternoon. A young African American woman streamed the video live on Facebook showing at least four people holding the young white man hostage.

"The video is reprehensible," said police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

"It's sickening. You know it makes you wonder what would make individuals treat somebody like that," Police Supt. Eddie Johnson added.

Throughout the video, the victim is repeatedly kicked and hit, his scalp is cut, all while he is tied up with his mouth taped shut.

At one point, the victim is held at knife point and told to curse President-elect Donald Trump. The group also forces the victim to drink water from a toilet.

The suspects can be heard saying they want the video to go viral.

Detectives think the victim, who lives in the suburbs and appeared to be in his late teens or early 20s, met some acquaintances in northwest suburban Streamwood and they drove him to Chicago in a stolen vehicle, Guglielmi said.

The victim is then believed to have been held hostage and tortured in an apartment in the 3400 block of West Lexington on the West Side, Guglielmi said. Continue reading

Missouri pressured to halt execution of (black) man sentenced by (all-white) jury

RACISTISM!

(theguardian) - Jay Nixon, the Democratic governor of Missouri, is coming under intense pressure to stay the imminent execution of an African American man who was sentenced to death by an all-white jury in St Louis County – the jurisdiction that covers Ferguson, scene of last summer’s dramatic unrest over state-sanctioned racial discrimination.

Barring last-minute intervention by Nixon or the US supreme court, Andre Cole, 42, will be killed by lethal injection at 6pm local time on Tuesday in a case that displays disturbing signs of racial animus. All three potential black jurors were removed from the jury pool at the demand of St Louis County prosecutors, who secured a death sentence from the resulting panel of 12 white men and women.

Such controversial circumstances have provoked a flurry of 11th-hour protests, including appeals to Nixon that he use his governor’s prerogative to stop the execution. The complaints are all the more charged coming from the county of Ferguson which August erupted in prolonged clashes between protesters and police after the police shooting of unarmed teenager Michael Brown.

“This case highlights the disparate treatment of African Americans in the criminal justice system. Ferguson exposed unequal treatment by police, and the pending execution of Andre Cole exposes the same disparity from prosecutors and the courts,” said Elston McCowan of the Missouri branch of the NAACP.

A coalition of civil rights activists, African American organizations and religious leaders have written to Nixon demanding an official inquiry into what they claim is rampant and systemic racial bias within St Louis County that has put a vastly disproportionate number of black men on to death row. The investigation would ensure, the 60 signatories write, “that racial bias has not infected the death sentences imposed in St Louis County”.

The numbers speak for themselves. Eleven death row prisoners were prosecuted in St Louis County. Of those, seven or 64% are black, in stark contrast to the general population of the area which is 24% African American.

Behind those startling figures lie evidence of racial distortions in the way that juries are configured. Evidence has been presented to court in seven separate death penalty cases in Missouri in which potential black jurors were struck off for no apparent reason.

Cole was convicted in 2001 for murdering the boyfriend of his former wife. Of the three potential black jurors struck off by St Louis County prosecutors, one was removed on grounds that he was divorced – even though a white divorcee was put on the final panel. “Prosecutors were asked to explain why they had struck off the black jurors, and the reasons they gave don’t hold up very well when you read the record,” said Cole’s attorney, Joseph Luby of the Death Penalty Litigation Clinic.

Clorox apologizes, deletes tweet after racial uproar involving emoticons

(cnnmoney) - Clorox has apologized for a seemingly harmless tweet about emojis that sparked outrage on Twitter.

The tweet, which Clorox (CLX) since deleted, showed a Clorox bottle made up of the new emojisreleased by Apple (AAPL, Tech30) as part of this week's iOS 8.3 update. Clorox tweeted, "New emojis are alright but where's the bleach."

Apple's new iOS 8.3 release consists of 300 new emojis, including kissing lips, googly eyes and a smiling poop (we wish we were making that up). But they also include racially diverse emojis, including cartoon faces with brown and black skin.

In its tweet, Clorox seemed to be commenting on why bleach wasn't included among the hundreds of other household items that Apple had added to its list of emojis. But on social media, offense was taken.

"You need to clean up your PR person. Put some bleach on your distasteful marketing ideas," tweeted @DriNicole. "Black emojis were added today. Saying this implies you'd rather the emojis be only white, by adding bleach."

After taking down the tweet, Clorox followed up with an apology: "Wish we could bleach away our last tweet. Didn't mean to offend - it was meant to be about all the [toilet, bathtub and red wine] emojis that could use a clean up." read the rest

Diversity is strength in Texas: Austin mayor outraged by 'white people only' stickers posted on businesses

(CNN) - Someone is posting stickers that say "exclusively for white people" on businesses in the Texas capital of Austin. And the mayor is not amused.

"This is an appalling and offensive display of ignorance in our city," Mayor Steve Adler said in a statement. "Our city is a place where respect for all people is a part of our spirit and soul. We will keep it that way."

In addition to the disparaging words, the stickers are using the city's logo, giving the impression that they represent Austin.

They do not, the mayor said.

"The stickers were neither produced nor knowingly displayed by the businesses and were removed by their employees when discovered this morning," he said Wednesday.

The stickers were placed between midnight Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday. It's unclear how many businesses were affected, but those that were targeted took them off, officials said.

City officials, businesses and the police are on the lookout for the culprits.

"This type of cowardly and hateful act will not be tolerated in this city," City Manager Marc Ott said. Full Story

Missouri Vice Gov. Claims The Justice Department Is More Racist Than Ferguson

(msn.com) 03/16/15 - Missouri Lt. Governor Peter Kinder (PR) said that the protests in Ferguson that followed the death of Michael Brown were "based on a lie" and that there was more racism in the Department of Justice than there was in the St. Louis area.

"The whole blow up of this protest movement was based on the lie that never happened of hands up don't shoot," Kinder told NewsmaxTV’s "Steve Malzberg Show" Monday in comments that were first highlighted by BuzzFeed.

Kinder was referring to a Department of Justice report released last week which concluded that witness accounts that Brown had his hands up when police officer Darren Wilson shot him were "inconsistent with physical and forensic evidence."

But a separate DOJ report on Ferguson police practices found that the protesters were justified in their demonstrations, even if Brown did not in fact have his hands up when he was killed. The DOJ report found that Ferguson police systematically discriminated against African-American citizens and acted as a vehicle for collecting revenue for the town instead of protecting its citizens.

"Clearly, these findings -- and others included in the report -- demonstrate that, although some community perceptions of Michael Brown’s tragic death may not have been accurate, the widespread conditions that these perceptions were based upon, and the climate that gave rise to them, were all too real," Holder said in reference to the report last week.

Kinder also said that the DOJ was staffed with "hard-left radical leftist lawyers," but admitted that the report identified some "legitimate grievances." Kinder pointed to the resignation of six Ferguson employees, including police chief Thomas Jackson, as evidence that reforms were being implemented.

"At some point the protesters need to give us a respite," he said.

Kinder, who has been lieutenant governor since 2005, said that the media and the Justice Department magnified what was going on in Ferguson.

"There is more racism in the Justice Department than anywhere I see in the St. Louis area," he said. "We've come an enormous way in 50 years, that's not to say that we don't have still more to do. It is the left, it is the Eric Holder and the Obama left and their minions that are obsessed with race while the rest of us are moving on beyond it." Full Story

Communist South Africa slams Japan paper over apartheid praise

(Feb 16 '15 iafricanews) = South Africa has protested after a prominent columnist in a leading right-wing newspaper in Japan praised racial segregation under apartheid as a model for Japanese immigration policy, the paper said Sunday.

Mohau N. Pheko, South Africa's ambassador to Japan, accused novelist Ayako Sono of glorifying the system of apartheid in the column published on Wednesday in the Sankei Shimbun.

Sono, who was previously an adviser to the government of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on education reform, wrote that Japan needs immigrant workers to help care for its rapidly ageing population - but that those workers should "live apart", as they did in South Africa under apartheid.

Pheko's letter of protest, according to a story published in the Sankei on Sunday, branded apartheid "a crime against humanity" and said it "must not be justified in the 21st century".

All countries, the Sankei quoted her as saying, must fight discrimination "against others based on skin colour or other standards".

The newspaper did not publish the full letter online, and there was no immediate comment from the South African embassy in Tokyo or from officials in Pretoria on Sunday. Full Story

US: Protesters Mass at Mall of America to denounce police brutality, racial crime

(nbcnews.com) - Parts of the massive Mall of America were temporarily closed Saturday following a demonstration against racial profiling and police brutality at one of the unions's largest shopping centers. A large crowd gathered in the Bloomington, Minnesota, mall rotunda just before 2 p.m. local time and staged a "die-in," despite warnings from mall officials that the protest was not permitted and could lead to arrests.

A similar protest occurred in the food court of the also-massive King of Prussia Mall in suburban Philadelphia Saturday, organizers said.

An hour after the protests began, and after many in the crowd had already left the rotunda, the mall said on Twitter that some areas of the shopping center "are temporarily closed for the safety our guests due to an unauthorized protest," but most of it was open.

Demonstrators at the Mall of America shouted "Hands up, don't shoot!", referring to the fatal police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, and "Black people cannot breathe, while we're on our shopping sprees," referring to the chokehold death of Eric Garner in New York.

Mall of America officials had warned that protests weren't allowed on private property and said in statement Saturday they were "extremely disappointed" that organizers chose to ignore their policy. "It's clear from their actions that these political activists were more concerned about making a political statement and creating a media event than they were about the safety of others," the mall said in the statement. Officials said earlier that violating those policies would result in removal and possible arrest.

Scores arrested as Ferguson, MO protests spread to other U.S. cities

THE JEWS!

(Reuters) - Police arrested scores of people in cities around the United States who were protesting a Missouri grand jury's decision not to indict a white police officer for killing an unarmed black teenager, authorities said on Wednesday, but the town where the shooting took place was a little calmer.

Protests in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta and elsewhere came on a second night of street violence in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson, Missouri, where policeman Darren Wilson shot to death 18-year-old Michael Brown on Aug. 9. The shooting has highlighted the often-tense nature of U.S. race relations and the strains between black communities and police.

There was less violence on the streets of Ferguson than on the previous night, as the deployment of some 2,000 National Guard troops to the area helped police prevent the rioting, looting and arson that erupted on Monday night.

Florida 'race war' planner sentenced to six months

(via yahoonews) ORLANDO Fla. (Reuters) - A Florida man accused of training members of a white supremacist group for a "race war" at a heavily fortified compound near Orlando and Walt Disney World was sentenced on Monday to six months in jail, according to court records.

Marcus Faella, 41, was convicted earlier this year on two counts of paramilitary training. Authorities in central Florida called him the ringleader of a group they broke up in 2012, saying at the time it intended to kill Jews, immigrants and other minorities.

He was a member of the American Front, prosecutors said, describing the group as a nationwide, military-style, skinhead organization modeled on Britain's whites-only National Front.

At his sentencing, Faella was given credit for 61 days he had already served in jail, court records show. He also will serve two years of community control, the Orlando Sentinel reported. Full Story

Robert Mugabe says no whites may own land in Zimbabwe

(csmoniter.com) HARARE, ZIMBABWE — Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe has ordered the nation’s remaining white farmers to be booted off their farms in order that the land be given to black Zimbabweans.

In the harshest official policy on race and land reform in a country that has been close to bankruptcy, the 90-year old autocrat said Wednesday that whites may no longer own any land in Zimbabwe. Whites would still be allowed to own businesses and urban apartments.

Speaking to farmers in Mhangura, a small mining town about 120 miles north of the capital Harare, Mr. Mugabe, said all remaining white farmers should leave – and closed the door even on white families renting farms from black owners, as some several hundred have been doing since most were violently chased away a decade ago.

Village People Banned From School Talent Show for Being Racist

(moonbattery) - Like an algae infestation that consumes all the oxygen in a pond until every fish has died, political correctness is choking all life out of our civilization. Virtually any spontaneous demonstration of our national personality is a thought crime. Even the Village People, a multi-ethnic gay-friendly disco act that would seem to be diversity incarnate, has been banned as racist:

Has “Y.M.C.A.” ever struck you as a racist song? Well, one North Dakota parentcomplained about a school performance of the song, and her complaint got Bennett Elementary School to pull the song from the school’s talent show in May. However, the complaint had nothing to do with the content of the song itself, but the fact that the group that sings it, the Village People, has one member that dresses up like a Native American.

The school said students should dress up like the Village People for the performance, because the song would be performed by the entire first grade class, but the mother complained it would be “offensive” for children to come dressed to school like Native Americans. She explained, “Hopefully those people that are can make the right choices so all students of any culture and race won’t feel singled out or like their race is being stereotyped against.”

So educrats pulled the song to please the P.C. prig.

If naming sports teams after Indians is racist, then why wouldn’t dressing up as one be racist too?

Even being an Indian may be racist. Felipe Rose, the guy who dresses up as an Indian in the Village People, is part Sioux, a tribe indigenous to the Dakotas.

There will be nothing left of our culture but grim, humorless, monochromatic obedience if people don’t develop the spine to stand up to political correctness and the moonbat martinets who impose it.

White wing supremacist: swan attacks foreign students in England

(telegraph) - Warwick University has erected a fence around a campus lake to stop a spate of swan attacks on students.

A 4ft tall bird, which boasts an 8ft wingspan, has been accused of behaved aggressively towards foreign students as they cross over a footbridge near its nesting place at the university's Gibbet Hill campus in Coventry, West Midlands.

The footbridge is used by hundreds of students everyday as a route between accommodation and university buildings. Undergraduates revealed that the swan only appeared to target students from ethnic minorities.

One 24-year-old student from India said: "These swans are very annoying, and the students feel as though they're being bullied.

"I'm from India, and they attack me especially, they focus straight on me.

Myanmar: "Ethnic Cleansing" of Muslims by Buddhists on the rise

Ethnic Cleansing Just Went From Bad to Worse in Myanmar

(newrepublic) - The ethnic cleansing in Myanmar's northwest has followed a jerky rhythm, coming in fits and starts since the first Buddhist-on-Muslim attacks in the middle of 2012. I visited the area for an article in the current issue of the magazine, and found it in a dangerous lull, with many Burmese Buddhists thrilled by the prospect of driving out the remaining Muslims and killing those who resisted.
