Minnesota: Minneapolis creates Indigenous People's Day on Columbus Day

(minnpost) - Indigenous People's Day — celebrating the heritage and contributions of Native Americans in Minneapolis — won unanimous support of the City Council at a meeting that overflowed the council chambers.

Beginning this fall, the holiday will be celebrated on October's second Monday, the day the state and federal governments designate as Columbus Day.

“We are sending a signal across the nation and to the global community that we make these changes in the spirit of truth-telling,” Council Member Alondra Cano told a gathering before the Council meeting.

“This is not about Columbus; he is not the center of our existence,” added Cano, who led the drive to establish a new name for the holiday. “This is about the power of the American Indian and people in indigenous communities all over the world.”

Google Is Reportedly Set To Carve Up Its Failed Social Network Google+

(BusinessInsider) -  Google is reportedly planning to dismantle its social network, Google+.

Google will consider Google+ a platform rather than a product, TechCrunch reports, citing "multiple sources."

This means that it will no longer exist as a social network aimed at competing with Facebook, but it still might be integrated into Google's existing products.

The company has allegedly been shifting the teams that used to be at "the core" of Google+ and is moving more talent toward the Android team.

Kids Getting High by Putting Lip Balm on Their Eyelids

kids these days...

(cnsnews) - Young people have discovered a bizarre new way to get high using a popular brand of lip balm.

"Beezin,'" as it's commonly known, involves applying the popular Burt's Bees brand of lip balm to your eyelids.

Apparently the peppermint oil in the product begins to tingle and the sensation enhances the effects of being drunk or high. Users also report that it keeps you awake and alert.

But, wait! Before you run out to make a bulk purchase of Burt's Bees in anticipation of new government regulations on lip moisturizers, keep in mind that "Beezin'" can lead to eye irritation similar to that of pink eye.

While all of us squares may just be learning about Beezin,' it appears that young people have been doing it for some time and have discovered that other lip balm products work in a similar way to the Burt's brand.

It is unclear who was the first person to put lip balm on their eyelids and realized that it got you high. But, you have them to thank for what will, inevitably, be a generation of strung-out kids who "Beez" one time with friends and, within a month, end up stealing television sets to pay for their habit.

Beezin' - not even once.

Putin remembers Yugoslavia.

"Yugoslavia forever!" - said no one ever.

(thetrumpet) - From the early 1990s through the early part of 2000, the United States used its power and ultimately its military to dismantle Yugoslavia! And it did so at the behest of Germany. America and Germany would like to forget that history as it really happened, but Vladimir Putin has not forgotten. What occurred there is etched in his memory and enrages him to this day.

And:
Yugoslavia was conquered by American military power. Under the banner of NATO, the United States blasted the Serbs to smithereens so Kosovo and other states could break away. It was a terrible attack against the Serbs, who were America’s allies in World Wars I and II!

But the most ominous part of all is that the United States conquered the Serbs basically on behalf of Germany—its bitter enemy in both world wars!

Further:
The Serbs see clearly that Germany was behind the breakup of Yugoslavia. Slovenia and Croatia wanted to break away in the 1990s. Initially, most of Europe, the United Nations and the United States were against that because they knew it would cause terrible problems. But Germany (and the Vatican) recognized and strongly supported Slovenia and Croatia. And against the rest of the world, the will of Germany prevailed.CROATIA’S BREAKAWAY LED TO CIVIL WAR. THEN GERMANY MANAGED TO GET AMERICA AND NATO TO DO THE DIRTY WORK!

Polls: Americans Repeatedly Say "No!" to U.S. Intervention in Ukraine

(newamerican) - In polls taken over the past few weeks by a number of opinion survey and news organizations, the American people have sent a remarkably unified message to President Obama and the U.S. Congress: “Stay out of Ukraine!”

Despite being peppered with a constant onslaught of dramatic news video footage from Kiev and the Crimea, as well as a visit to the Obama White House by Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk, and the usual stable of policy “experts” from the Brookings Institution and the Council on Foreign Relations advocating more “robust” U.S. intervention, Americans across the political spectrum remain opposed to still another foreign venture.

White wing supremacist: swan attacks foreign students in England

(telegraph) - Warwick University has erected a fence around a campus lake to stop a spate of swan attacks on students.

A 4ft tall bird, which boasts an 8ft wingspan, has been accused of behaved aggressively towards foreign students as they cross over a footbridge near its nesting place at the university's Gibbet Hill campus in Coventry, West Midlands.

The footbridge is used by hundreds of students everyday as a route between accommodation and university buildings. Undergraduates revealed that the swan only appeared to target students from ethnic minorities.

One 24-year-old student from India said: "These swans are very annoying, and the students feel as though they're being bullied.

"I'm from India, and they attack me especially, they focus straight on me.

Florida needs a motor vehicle registry..

Winter Park, Florida (CNN) -- Central Florida authorities were looking Wednesday evening for a man after a Dodge Durango pushed a car into a day care center, fatally injuring one little girl and leaving 14 others, mostly children, hurt.

The child died at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman Trooper Wanda Diaz said.

The driver of the Durango remained missing after the SUV was found about three hours later.

Highway Patrol spokeswoman Sgt. Kim Monte said the agency was seeking to detain Robert Corchado, whom authorities believe was trying to flee the Orlando area. He is believed be in his mid- to late 20s.

Minnesota: Governor Approves Tougher Anti-Bullying Law

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP/WCCO) — An anti-bullying law that replaces one some found too weak is now in place.

Gov. Mark Dayton used an outdoor ceremony Wednesday to sign a bill toughening Minnesota’s stand against bullying. The bill passed overnight after a protracted House debate.

Supporters say it will provide a safer learning environment for children. Critics argue it will subject more kids to punishment for expressing their religious beliefs or engaging in other youthful behavior.

The bill requires school districts to track and investigate cases of bullying and directs schools to better train staff and teachers on how to prevent it. Current law requires school districts to have a bullying policy but doesn’t include details on what the policy should contain.

Tuvalu Bruises Russia By Establishing Diplomatic Ties With Georgia

(NewRepublic) - Russia has been diplomatically wounded of late. As punishment for taking over Crimea, it was isolated in the United Nations Security Council, condemned in the General Assembly by 100 votes to 11, excluded from the G8, and some of President Vladimir Putin's best friends were sanctioned by the United States. Few of these recent snubs, however, have been quite as embarrassing as that from Pacific microstate Tuvalu, which, on March 31, scrapped its recognition of the Russian protectorates of South Ossetia and Abkhazia and established diplomatic relations with Georgia. The island nation may only have a population of 10,782, but its decision could spell the end of a years-long diplomatic strategy that has cost Russia millions.

Back in 2011, in the heady years after the Russo-Georgian War in 2008, Tuvalu was one of five countries that sided with Moscow in recognizing at least one of the two small, South Caucasus republics as independent, rather than as part of Georgia. Now, that number is down to three: Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Nauru, a Pacific island whose population of 9,488 makes it the second-smallest independent nation in the world, after Vatican City.

Lego is a tool of Satan, warns Polish priest

Father Slawomir Kostrzewa says toy company represents 'world of death' and that Zombie and Monster Fighter mini-figures can lead children 'to the dark side'

(thetelegraph) - A Polish priest has warned parents to be on their guard against Lego, warning the plastic blocks are a tool of Satan and can "destroy" children's souls.

In a presentation aimed at parents, Father Slawomir Kostrzewa said the popular Danish toy company had taken a lurch to the dark side with its series of Monster Fighters and Zombie mini-figures, and that they "were about darkness and the world of death".

"Friendly fellows have been replaced by dark monsters," he explained. "These toys can have a negative effect on children. They can destroy their souls and lead them to the dark side."

Lego's Monster Fighters range features Lord Vampyre, a fanged Dracula-like character, who battles the likes of Doctor Rodney Rathbone and Major Quinton Steele as they try to prevent him from "cloaking the world in darkness".

The priest also cited research by New Zealand's University of Canterbury that found the facial expressions of Lego figures have also become angrier over the years, and that this compounded their evil potential.
