The History Iran Forgot.

Here is an inspiring look back at when the Islamic Republic’s forefathers were friends and champions of … the Jews.

- It took 10 years to plan and lasted five days. The Guinness Book of World Records recorded it as the most “well-attended” international gathering in history. More than 600 foreign dignitaries, including some 65 heads of state, abandoned their presidential palaces and braved the Iranian desert—on sand dunes on the outskirts of Persepolis, capital of the ancient Persian Empire.

Petition Urges Whitehouse To Classify Westboro Church As 'Hate Group.'

- More than 475,000 people have signed petitions asking the White House to crack down on Westboro Baptist Church after the group, known for holding anti-gay demonstrations at funerals, threatened to picket in Newtown, Connecticut.

Newtown was the site of a school massacre on 14 December in which 20 young children and six adults were killed.

Five petitions posted on the White House website since the shootings have asked the government to name the church, based in Topeka, Kansas, as a hate group or end its tax-exempt status. The requests were among the most popular on the White House site on Thursday (12/27).

Kwanzaa: Holiday Brought To You By The FBI.

Let's Face It, Kwanzaa Is Not Just A River In Angola... It's Also A Made Up Holiday.

... It is a fact that Kwanzaa was invented in 1966 by a black radical FBI stooge, Ron Karenga – aka Dr. Maulana Karenga – founder of United Slaves, a violent nationalist rival to the Black Panthers. He was also a dupe of the FBI.

Kwanzaa was the result of a ’60s psychosis grafted onto the black community. Liberals have become so mesmerized by multicultural nonsense that they have forgotten the real history of Kwanzaa and Karenga’s United Slaves – the violence, the Marxism, the insanity.

Christianity 'Close To Extinction' In Near East.

- Christianity faces being wiped out of the “biblical heartlands” in the Middle East because of mounting persecution of worshippers, according to a new report.

The study warns that Christians suffer greater hostility across the world than any other religious group.

And it claims politicians have been “blind” to the extent of violence faced by Christians in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

The most common threat to Christians abroad is militant Islam, it says, claiming that oppression in Muslim countries is often ignored because of a fear that criticism will be seen as “racism”

The violence brings back memories of the revolution that happened only two years ago when Egyptians overthrew then-President Hosni Mubarak.

Morsi refuses to give up absolute power. In a nationally televised speech Thursday night he refused to retract the disputed constitution drafted by his allies.

The Number Of Terrorist Attacks Each Year Has More Than Quadrupled In The decade Since 9/11/01.

- The number of terrorist attacks each year has more than quadrupled in the decade since September 11, 2001, a study released on Tuesday said, with Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan the most affected.

The number of annual deaths in attacks, however, peaked in 2007 -- the height of the Iraq conflict -- and has been falling ever since. The survey reported 7,473 fatalities in 2011, 25 percent down on 2007. That figure included dead suicide bombers and other attackers.

Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and Yemen were the five countries most affected by terrorism in descending order, it said, based on a measure giving weightings to number of attacks, fatalities and injuries and level of property damage.

Egypt Sentences 8 To Death Over Islam Film.

- An Egyptian court convicted in absentia Wednesday(11/28) seven Egyptian Coptic Christians and a Florida-based American pastor, sentencing them to death on charges linked to an anti-Islam film that had sparked riots in parts of the Muslim world.

The case was seen as largely symbolic because the defendants, most of whom live in the United States, are all outside Egypt and are thus unlikely to ever face the verdict. The charges were issued in September amid a wave of public outrage in Egypt over the amateur film, which was produced by an Egyptian-American Copt.

The low-budget Innocence of Muslims,” parts of which were made available online, portrays the Prophet Muhammad as a fraud, womanizer and buffoon.

France Sees 'Alarming' Rise In 'Islamophobia.'

-French Muslims have become the target of a marked increase in Islamophobic violence and actions, as well as incendiary statements by politicians, over the last two years, according to a report by a leading anti-racism observatory.

The number of racist acts against Muslims in France is increasing “alarmingly”, according to the country’s National Observatory of Islamophobia, whose president has called for overt Islamophobia to be taken as seriously as anti-Semitism, which is a criminal offence in France.

According to a report by the Observatory, which claims to fight “all forms of racism and xenophobia”, “in 2011 the number [of anti-Muslim attacks] was up 34% on the previous year . . . but what is happening in 2012 is alarming. Between January and the end of October there were 175 reported Islamophobic acts, a 42% increase compared with the same period in 2011.”

Professor: (American) Thanksgiving 'White-Supremacist Holiday.'

- Forget all that turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie, today should be a day of fasting and atonement for American “sin.” That’s according to Robert Jensen, a journalism professor at the University of Texas at Austin. Jensen, known for his hard-left politics, also calls Thanksgiving a “white-supremacist holiday.”

Jensen’s opinion piece “No Thanks for Thanksgiving,” appeared on the far-left, Soros-connected website Alternet on Thanksgiving eve. In it, he wrote how Native Americans suffered because of the “European invasion of the Americas.” He went on to compare the Founding Fathers to Nazi Germany. “How does a country deal with the fact that some of its most revered historical figures had certain moral values and political views virtually identical to Nazis?” he asked.

According to Jensen, Thanksgiving is “at the heart of U.S. myth-building. “But in the United States, this reluctance to acknowledge our original sin — the genocide of indigenous people is of special importance today,” he explained.

Egypt: Meet The New Boss, Same As The Old Boss (But Worse)

(foxnews) - Egypt’s president on Thursday issued constitutional amendments that placed him above judicial oversight and ordered the retrial of Hosni Mubarak for the killing of protesters in last year’s uprising.

Mohammed Morsi also decreed immunity for the Islamist-dominated panel drafting a new constitution from any possible court decisions to dissolve it, a threat that had been hanging over the controversial assembly.

Liberal and Christian members withdrew from the assembly during the past week to protest what they say is the hijacking of the process by Morsi’s allies, who they saw are trying to push through a document that will have an Islamist slant marginalizing women and minority Christians and infringing on personal liberties. Several courts have been looking into cases demanding the dissolution of the panel.

Predictable: Polygamy New Marriage-Rights Frontier Says Professor.

If you Have 'Gay Marriage' Why Stop There? Why Not Legalize Polygamy Or Polyandry?

- In her decades of researching polygamy, Janet Bennion, a professor of anthropology and sociology at Lyndon State College, recalls three times she was “courted” by married women. One wrote her “love letters.” Another took her to a restaurant “to determine whether I was wifely material,” Bennion writes in her new book, Polygamy in Primetime.

These women were devout members of fundamentalist Mormon sects, not swingers. Like many examples in Bennion’s illuminating study, they defy the popular perception that the practice of men taking multiple wives is solely about the male libido.

Liberal Vermonters have cheered on the progress of marriage rights this election season. But what would we say to a woman who sought to unite herself in matrimony to a man and another woman?

The War On Poverty: US$15 Trillion & Nothing To Show For It.

Fifteen trillion dollars: That’s how much American taxpayers have forked over in the name of helping the poor since 1964. And what do we have to show for it? A poverty rate that has barely budged, an entrenched bureaucracy, and a population  like that of Greece and Portugal, two welfare-state basket cases increasingly dependent on government handouts.

These are the conclusions of a recent Cato Institute report on the American welfare state by Michael Tanner, Cato’s director of health and welfare studies and author of The Poverty of Welfare: Helping Others in Civil Society. It is hardly an encouraging read, to say the least.

When President Johnson declared war on poverty nearly half a century ago, writes Tanner, “the poverty rate in America was around 19 percent and falling rapidly.” Increasing prosperity brought about by the free market, coupled with strong civil institutions such as churches, charities, and fraternal organizations, was already accomplishing the unthinkable: making poverty, the general condition of mankind throughout most of history, a rarity in the United States. A rising tide, as Johnson’s predecessor observed, does indeed lift all boats.

The man at the helm of the ’64 ship of state, however, decided the tide wasn’t rising quickly enough and so he would help it along by filling buckets with water from the port side of the ship and emptying them on the starboard side. Not surprisingly, this strategy failed to increase the water level. Thus, despite $12 trillion in federal welfare spending and $3 trillion in state and local government welfare spending over the past 48 years, says Tanner, “the poverty rate never fell below 10.5 percent and is now at the highest level in nearly a decade” 15.1 percent and climbing. “Clearly,” he adds, “we have been doing something wrong.”

Of course, that all depends on how one defines success in the war on poverty. For those on the receiving end of government handouts  not just the poor but also those paid to provide services to them, such as doctors and landlords success is getting more taxpayer dollars every year; and by that standard, the war has been a remarkable achievement. “Government spends $20,610 for every poor person in America, or $61,830 per poor family of three,” Tanner reports. “Given that the poverty line for that family is just $18,530, we should have theoretically wiped out poverty in America many times over.”

The war on poverty has also been a rousing success for the bureaucracy. At the federal level alone there are now 126 separate anti-poverty programs administered by seven different cabinet agencies and six independent agencies. Then there are the hordes of social workers and government employees who administer the various programs. All of these people have a vested interest in the programs’ continuation and expansion. As a result, “anti-poverty programs are usually more concerned with protecting the prerogatives of the bureaucracy than with actually fighting poverty,” Tanner avers.

Needless to say, taxpayers have been the big losers in the war. Federal welfare spending has risen 375 percent (in constant 2011 dollars) since 1965. Total welfare spending has climbed almost as much: Governments are now disbursing $908 billion a year to alleviate poverty, up from $256 billion (also in constant dollars) in 1965. Moreover, notes Tanner:

Over the last decade the increase has been even more rapid. Federal welfare spending increased significantly under the Bush administration, but President Obama has thrown money at anti-poverty programs at an unprecedented rate. Since taking office, the Obama administration has increased spending on welfare programs by more than $193 billion.

While some of the spending hikes under Obama can be attributed to the recession, Tanner writes, “part of the program’s growth is due to conscious policy choices by this administration to ease eligibility rules and expand caseloads.” This, he points out, “undid many of the incentives contained in the 1996 Clinton welfare reform, which helped states to reduce welfare rolls.” As a result, the administration projects that “combined federal and state welfare spending will not drop significantly once the economy fully recovers,” with the annual tab reaching $1 trillion in 2014 and the 10-year total hitting $10.3 trillion — an amount that, Tanner calculates, comes to “$250,000 for every American currently living in poverty, or $1 million for every poor family of four.”

If all that money could really eradicate poverty, perhaps it would be worth it (constitutional and moral issues aside). Unfortunately, as we have seen, the massive amount of money already spent on that objective has failed to make a dent in the poverty rate. “In fact,” observes Tanner, “the only appreciable decline [in the poverty rate] occurred in the 1990s, a time of state experimentation with tightening welfare eligibility, culminating in the passage of national welfare reform.” The poor, despite the unprecedented redistribution of wealth in their favor, have been losers, too.

“The vast majority of current programs are focused on making poverty more comfortable giving poor people more food, better shelter, health care, and so forth rather than giving people the tools that will help them escape poverty,” Tanner remarks. “The best way to create wealth,” he explains, “is not through government action, but through the power of the free market.”

That means that if we wish to fight poverty, we should end those government policies high taxes and regulatory excess that inhibit growth and job creation. We should protect capital investment and give people the opportunity to start new businesses. We should reform our failed government school system to encourage competition and choice. We should encourage the poor to save and invest.

We should also set about shrinking all government transfer payments, not just those directed specifically at the poor. One of the ways politicians have bought off middle-class voters who oppose welfare for the poor is to offer those voters their own form of welfare such as Social Security and Medicare. Because of this, “government payouts, including middle-class entitlements, now account for more than a third of all wages and salaries in the United States,” according to Tanner. “Worse, if one includes salaries from government employment, more than half of Americans receive a substantial portion of their income from the government.”

“Any way that you look at it, we are rapidly becoming a society where more and more people rely on the government for their support.”

This is why our government is already nearly $16 trillion in debt with many more trillions of dollars in unfunded liabilities as far as the eye can see. It is also why European welfare states are in their current precarious positions.

The grip of government dependence must be broken not just for the poor but for everyone. It is the only way to save both our dignity and our country’s financial future.

The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, was based on a review of 20 clinical trials involving 68,000 participants. That’s big enough to make the results important.

Fish oil supplements containing omega-3 fatty acids are huge sellers. It’s estimated that Americans spent more than $1 billion on them last year – and sales are increasing.

2 Men Acquitted Under New US Gay Hate Crime Law.

(cnsnews.com)- The first U.S. prosecution under a new federal law against anti-gay violence ended with a Kentucky jury acquitting two cousins of hate-crime charges while finding them guilty of kidnapping in a 2011 attack on a gay man.

Prosecutors had argued that Anthony Ray Jenkins and his cousin David Jason Jenkins attacked 29-year-old Kevin Pennington at a rural state park because of Pennington's sexual orientation, violating a hate crime law that was expanded in 2009 to cover assaults motivated by bias against gays, lesbians and transgender people.

Minnesota Government Bans Free Online University Education Within Its Borders.

(From 10/22/12)

- The state of Minnesota has discovered a fiendish plot against the residents of the state. Thirty-three major universities are offering free courses online.

The state has warned its residents not to take these courses.

Why not? Because the law says that no out-of-state university can sell education in Minnesota unless it is registered.

But the courses are free.

Yes, but they involve the use of time.

But the law decades old does not mention the spending of time. Only money.

Ted Turner: I Think It's Good U.S. Troops Are Killing Themselves.

'Military men are just dumb stupid animals used as pawns in foreign policy.' - Henry Kissinger.

- During an appearance on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight, Ted Turner said he thinks it’s “good” that U.S. soldiers are killing themselves because it shows humanity has evolved a distaste for war.

Asked what he thought about the fact that more American soldiers commit suicide than are killed in combat, host Morgan said it was “shocking,” but Turner responded, “No, I think it’s good.”

Turner went on to argue that it was time for people to start acting “enlightened” and that this was why it was “good” U.S. soldiers are committing suicide in such large numbers because it shows an aversion to war.

Arizona Ballot Measure Contests Ownership Of The Grand Canyon.

- When voters in Arizona go to the polls next month, they will be asked to decide a landownership tug of war: Should the Grand Canyon belong to all Americans, or just the residents of Arizona?

A controversial ballot measure backed by Republicans in the state legislature is seeking sovereign control over millions of acres of federal land in the state, including the Grand Canyon.

Proposition 120 would amend the state’s constitution to declare Arizona’s sovereignty and jurisdiction over the “air, water, public lands, minerals, wildlife and other natural resources within the state’s boundaries.”

Do Vitamins Reduce Cancer Risk?

Good News For Men According to Study.

- America’s favorite dietary supplements, multivitamins, modestly lowered the risk for cancer in healthy male doctors who took them for more than a decade, the first large study to test these pills has found.

The result is a surprise because many studies of individual vitamins have found they don’t help prevent chronic diseases and some even seemed to raise the risk of cancer.

In the new study, multivitamins cut the chance of developing cancer by 8 percent. That is less effective than a good diet, exercise and not smoking, each of which can lower cancer risk by 20 percent to 30 percent, cancer experts say.

Evidence Of Viking Outpost Found In Canada.

- For the past 50 years since the discovery of a thousand-year-old Viking way station in Newfoundland, archaeologists and amateur historians have combed North America’s east coast searching for traces of Viking visitors.

It has been a long, fruitless quest, littered with bizarre claims and embarrassing failures. But at a conference in Canada earlier this month, archaeologist Patricia Sutherland announced new evidence that points strongly to the discovery of the second Viking outpost ever discovered in the Americas.

US Presidential Candidate Arrested & Detained At Hofstra University debate.

I'm a little late on this but, thought I'd go ahead & share.

Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein and vice-presidential candidate Cheri Honkala were arrested Tuesday as they attempted to enter the grounds of the presidential debate site at Hofstra University. Like other third-party candidates, Stein was blocked from participating in the debate by the Commission on Presidential Debates, which is controlled by the Republican and Democratic parties. Stein and Honkala were held for eight hours, handcuffed to chairs. As she was being arrested, Stein condemned what she called "this mock debate, this mockery of democracy." Just hours after being released.

French-German Disputes Could Mar European Summit.

BRUSSELS — European Union leaders sought Thursday to overcome sharp differences over how to improve supervision of their banks and budgets, at the start of a two-day summit  meeting aimed at resolving the euro zone crisis.

But with market pressure on their single currency easing, at least for now, there were already signs that leaders could return to a familiar pattern of bickering, which could delay already agreed-to changes, like creating a single regulator for all euro zone banks.

One of the issues overhanging the meeting is a dispute between France and Germany on whether to create such a supervisor by January, as the European Commission has proposed. Paris is pushing to meet that deadline.

President Of The Gambia Says Special Herbs Cured Dozens Of Patients With HIV, AIDS

(NaturalNews.com) Representing the seventh round of cases successfully treated since 2007, 68 people were recently discharged from Gambia’s Presidential Alternative Medical Treatment Programme (PAMTP) after reportedly being cured of either HIV or AIDS. Reports indicate that the confidential blend of boiled herbs developed by Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has once again proven efficacious, illustrating not only that Western medicine is greatly lacking in its ability to effectively treat these epidemic conditions, but also that nature has once again trumped the laboratory when it comes to true healing.

It was about five years ago when Jammeh first announced, to the chagrin of conventional physicians everywhere, that he had successfully developed an herbal concoction capable of not only treating, but also curing both HIV and AIDS. Since that time, PAMTP has enrolled and treated dozens upon dozens of people with the conditions, many of whom have experienced dramatic results, according to reports. And yet both the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations (UN) continue to fight against the treatment, claiming that it puts patients at risk.

“The objective of my medication is to get rid of the virus that the patients are infected with and I have made [this] very clear since the start of my treatment program,” Jammeh is quoted as saying by The Daily Observer. “Because our salvation is when we go back to our natural pharmacists (forest), we will use Western medicine as complementary to natural African medicine.”

U.S. approach to medicine still pushes natural remedies to the back seat
In the U.S., the opposite approach is taken — that is, if any sort of complementary approach is taken at all. At best, so-called “alternative” treatments, which usually involve the use of natural herbs and other non-patented remedies, are typically added onto an existing conventional regimen. The case of treating HIV and AIDS, conventional doctors still employ the use of antiviral drugs that merely manage disease symptoms rather than actually fight the disease.

According to JollofNews, Jammeh’s treatment contains a blend of green paste, bitter drink, and bananas, the latter of which was shown in a 2010 study published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry to help prevent the transmission of HIV, the virus believed by many to cause AIDS. During the time of the treatment, patients are advised not to take any conventional antiviral medications.

In his announcement, Jammeh explained that these and various other “natural medicine” techniques will be integrated into every hospital throughout Gambia, and that Western treatments will only be used to complement them. The West African country also recently hosted a five-day training conference on HIV and AIDS to teach other countries how to strategically fight HIV and AIDS infections throughout the region.

Brit Official: We're Ready To Leave E.U.

'Give us back our sovereignty or we'll walk out.'

(London Daily Mail) - The chances of Britain leaving the EU rose dramatically last Saturday after it emerged that one of David Cameron’s closest Cabinet allies believes it is time to tell Brussels bluntly: ‘We are ready to quit.’

Education Secretary Michael Gove has told friends that, if there was a referendum today on whether the UK should cut its ties with Brussels, he would vote to leave.

He wants Britain to give other EU nations an ultimatum: ‘Give us back our sovereignty or we will walk out.’

Mr. Gove insists the UK could thrive as a free trading nation on its own, like other non-EU nations in Europe such as Norway and Switzerland. He has changed his view partly as a result of his fury at Brussels meddling which has held up his school reforms.

Pres. Obama's Refusal To Deport Illegals Declared Unconstitutional.

(Fox News.com) Two law professors, including one who served in the Bush Justice Department, have published a paper charging that President Obama violated the Constitution with his directive to law enforcement not to deport illegal aliens.

In the paper entitled, “The Obama Administration, the Dream Act and the Take Care Clause,” authors Robert Delahunty of the University of St. Thomas [Minnesota] and John Yoo, a law professor at University of California at Berkeley and former U.S. deputy assistant attorney general, blast Obama’s moratorium on deporting certain illegal immigrants. The professors dismissed the idea that the decision on whether to deport illegal immigrants who are arrested for minor infractions is a matter of prosecutorial discretion.

“If there’s one case and it’s left to the prosecutor well that’s fine, but what Obama did was take a million cases and leave it up to prosecutorial discretion, “John Yoo said to FoxNews.com. “The only reason it’s under [Department of Homeland Security Secretary] Janet Napolitano’s discretion is because Obama had made his decision. If she’s doing it under her own, she would have to be fired.”

CDC: 14 Dead As Meningitis Outbreak Grows.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal health officials have tracked down 12,000 of the roughly 14,000 people who may have received contaminated steroid shots in the nation’s growing meningitis outbreak, warning Thursday that patients will need to keep watch for symptoms of the deadly infection for months.

“We know that we are not out of the woods yet,” Dr. J. Todd Weber of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said as the death toll reached 14.

Of the 170 people sickened in the outbreak, all but one have a rare fungal form of meningitis after receiving suspect steroid shots for back pain, the CDC said. The other case is an ankle infection discovered in Michigan; steroid shots also can be given to treat aching knees, shoulders or other joints.

Belfast To Open Ireland's First Abortion Clinic.

DUBLIN (AP) — A family planning charity plans to open the first abortion clinic in Ireland, challenging decades of legal confusion over the extremely limited access to pregnancy terminations in both parts of the island.

Officials at the Marie Stopes facility due to open next week in Belfast, capital of the British territory of Northern Ireland, said Thursday they plan to offer non-surgical abortions to women whose pregnancies are less than nine weeks in gestation. They expect protests and have declined to reveal the clinic's street address.

Women will receive medication that causes a miscarriage only if doctors determine that continued pregnancy would jeopardize their physical or mental health.

Abortions under such circumstances are supposed to be legal already in both parts of Ireland. But lawmakers have failed for decades to clarify the situation, leaving hospitals and doctors fearful of suffering pickets or lawsuits if they're publicly identified as an abortion provider.

Protestants No Longer The Majority In US, Study Says.

(foxnews.com) NEW YORK – For the first time in its history, the United States does not have a Protestant majority, according to a new study. One reason: The number of Americans with no religious affiliation is on the rise.

The percentage of Protestant adults in the U.S. has reached a low of 48 percent, the first time that Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life has reported with certainty that the number has fallen below 50 percent. The drop has long been anticipated and comes at a time when no Protestants are on the U.S. Supreme Court and the Republicans have their first presidential ticket with no Protestant nominees.

Among the reasons for the change are the growth in nondenominational Christians who can no longer be categorized as Protestant, and a spike in the number of American adults who say they have no religion. The Pew study, released Tuesday, found that about 20 percent of Americans say they have no religious affiliation, an increase from 15 percent in the last five years.

Russia Marks Putin's 60th Birthday With Praise, Mockery.

News you don't need...

(cbsnews) Moscow - Kremlin officials like to insist Russian President Vladimir Putin does not care for big birthday bashes and that he will be spending his 60th on Sunday quietly celebrating with close friends and family in his home city, St. Petersburg.

However, the president's supporters don't appear to have received the memo, and so the day has seen an unprecedented exhibition of Putin-idolatry reminiscent of some of the world's oddest cults of personality.

Much of it - like it the fawning, up-close-and-personal profile on Kremlin-friendly television channel NTV - looks like propaganda. Some of the praise can be so extreme as to appear almost like a subtle form of satire on Putin's heroic representations in state media. And some Putin opponents have used the occasion to poke fun.

Broccoli & Cabbage Among Vegetables That Cut Cancer Risk?

(dailymail.co.uk) - It might be hard to convince some to eat their greens but here is one good reason why they should - it cuts the risk of developing a variety of cancers.

Eating cruciferous vegetables such as sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower at least once a week can cut the risk of developing a variety of cancers.

Those who ate them at least weekly cut the risk of mouth cancer and breast cancer by almost a fifth and oesophageal cancer by more than a quarter, a study has found.

The research linked poor diet with the fatal disease with around a third of all cases of oral cancer is thought to be linked to an unhealthy diet.

Previous studies have found that a particular nutrient in cruciferous vegetables, which also include cabbage, watercress and radish, can kill cancer cells and gives potential for the production of new drugs.

The results, published in the Annals of Oncology, found that the risk of kidney cancer was cut by almost a third and colorectal cancer by almost a fifth.

German State Takes Custody Of Children Over Socialization.

Judge says academic competency irrelevant to homeschooling fight.

(wnd.com) - A judge in Germany has ordered a couple to turn over custody of their four children to the state because their homeschooling practices fail to meet the government’s demand for “integration.”

The word on the ruling comes from the Home School Legal Defense Association, which advocates worldwide for parental rights to homeschool their own children.

Judge Markus Malkmus in the German district court in Darmstadt ordered the four children of Dirk and Petra Wunderlich transferred to the state’s “child protective agency,” called the Jugendamt. - Full Story.

Why Do The Left & Right Mean Liberal & Conservative?

During the election season the words left and right denote political affiliation more than spatial direction. But where do these associations come from?

The left hand has long been associated with deviance. The word “sinister” originally meant “to the left” in Latin. The word “left” comes from the Old English word lyft, which literally meant “weak, foolish.” To avoid the negative and superstitious associations of the left side, many languages used euphemisms for it. In Old English the left side was called winestra, which meant “friendlier.” In Greek it was called aristeros or “the better one.”

When did the political affiliation of these two common words arise? In fact, the association is not American at all. It originated during the French Revolution. In the 1790s, King Louis XVI was fighting with the Legislative Assembly. Like our modern-day House of Representatives, seating in the French Legislative Assembly was arranged based on political affiliation. The King sat in front of the assembly. To his right sat the conservative Feuillants who backed the king and believed in a constitutional monarchy. To his left sat the liberal Girondists and radical Jacobins who wanted to install a completely democratic government. Oddly enough, in the U.S. House of Representatives the tables have turned: members of the Republican party sit to the left of the House Speaker and members of the Democratic party sit to his or her right.

It wasn’t until the early 20th century that Left and Right denoted political affiliation in Britain and the US, and the more politically loaded terms “leftwing” and “rightwing” were not widely used until after 1960.

HATE: Chick-fil-A Supports 'Biblical Families.'

(thedailybeast.com) - The game of political chicken continues. Dan Cathy, CEO of fast-food pollo peddler Chick-fil-A, first ignited national uproar this summer when he took an anti-gay marriage stance in an interview, sparking a boycott, a counter-boycott, and ceaseless debate about religion, politics, and chicken. Now, in his first interview since the controversy, Cathy voiced his support of “Biblical families” while side-stepping direct comment about the gay-marriage debate. “Families are very important to our country,” he told Georgia’s NBC 11. “And they’re very important to those of us who are concerned about being able to hang on to our heritage.” Yes, our fried chicken heritage.

Driest September In 130 Years May Bring Spring Struggle.

(myfoxtwincites) - Farmers nationwide have been struggling with drought this year, but next year could be even worse now that fields are facing winter without the six to nine inches of rain they'll need to be ready for a good spring planting.

So far, only about 0.3 inches of rain has fallen this month, which is two inches below average.

While few homeowners are complaining about the unusually dry September, their landscaping could languish next year.

Oops! Police Raid Wrong Home In Suspected Drug Raid.

(ABC News) - A 61-year-old man was shot to death by police while his wife was handcuffed in another room during a drug raid on the wrong house.

Police admitted their mistake, saying faulty information from a drug informant contributed to the death of John Adams Wednesday night. They intended to raid the home next door.

John Adams was watching television when his wife heard pounding on the door. Police claim they identified themselves and wore police jackets. Loraine Adams said she had no indication the men were police.

Police say her husband fired first with a sawed-off shotgun and they responded. He was shot at least three times and died later at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Trampolines Deemed Bad For Your Health.

If Trampolines Are So Bad Then Why Are They Not Illegal?

(FOXNEWS) — Kids should stay off trampolines at home and at the playground, U.S. pediatricians urged Monday, saying emergency departments across the country see nearly 100,000 injuries from the bouncy mats each year.

The new statement from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) updates recommendations from 1999, which caused manufacturers to add safety features to the products in an attempt to mitigate the risks.

However, these measures may “provide a false sense of security,” according to the group.

“As best we can tell, the addition of safety nets and padding has actually not changed the injuries we have seen,” said Dr. Susannah Briskin, a sports medicine specialist who helped draft the new statement.

The content apparently so offensive that no one, including the police, would quote it exactly.

Also no riots or condemnation were reported in response.

Brave New World: Russia Planning To Build Eurasian Union?

(wnd.com) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has plans to turn a nascent Customs Union comprised of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan for free trade into a Eurasian Union that includes all of Eurasia, countries of Central and even East Asia.

Russia already has initiated efforts with countries such as Vietnam in the Far East to undertake more economic and military trade.

While development of the Eurasian Union has been slow, it is expected to formally come into existence in 2015.

Analysts believe it is Putin’s vision to use the Eurasian Union as a basis to reclaim the nation-states which were once part of the Soviet Union – and then some.

Putin’s efforts to bring Asian countries into the Eurasian Union reflect his desire to expand into a greater economic union with countries with which Russia has expanded trade. Ultimately it could be a big free-trade zone.

Some of this thinking became increasingly apparent at the recent Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Vladivostok. At the summit, Putin said he wants to promote active collaboration between the existing Customs Union and the Asia-Pacific countries.

He said that dozens of countries have sought trade agreements with the Customs Union, giving Putin the hope of expanding into a greater Eurasian Union.

Depending on the success of setting up successful trade with Vietnam, Putin envisions the country becoming an Asian hub for former Soviet states and perhaps other Asian nations.

While Putin’s vision is to open a vast free trade zone from the Caucasus and Central Asia to the Far East, his motives also have a political intention. He continues to see China as a form of competition, both economically and politically, and sees the Eurasian Union as a way to check China in the region.

This could cause a potential future confrontation between Russia and China which already is asserting its military capability in the East and South China Seas and considers them being in its sphere of influence.

German Homeschoolers Say Treatment 'Inhuman, Cold, Brutal'.

In that atmosphere, global conference scheduled to be held.

(wnd.com) - Juergin Dudek of Germany says his nation’s treatment of homeschoolers is “utterly inhuman, cold, brutal – run by bureaucrats who think they’re only doing their job but uphold the system at all costs.”

He’d know. After all, he and his wife repeatedly have been convicted and fined for homeschooling their own children. One time they even were sentenced to jail, a penalty challenged on appeal.

It’s into that atmosphere in Berlin, where the government has been known to describe homeschooling as child abuse and makes it a violation of the law, that the Global Home Education Conference 2012 is preparing to hold its first-ever meetings, Nov. 1-4.
